Our 6th Graders go to St. Martin’s Hospitality Center

Our Middle School students, the 6th graders of the GREAT Academy, will participate in their first service learning project this year on Friday, October 23. Along with adult staff members, they will tour and work with St. Martin’s Hospitality Center/Project Share to assist in providing necessary services to homeless and near homeless people in our community. Their tasks will include serving food, sorting and distributing supplies to clients and light clean-up of the day shelter.

St. Martin’s has been at the forefront of working to end homelessness for over 27 years. Their goal is “to create self-sufficiency and break the cycle of homelessness. We have discovered that an individual’s greatest resources are their own skills and strengths; their greatest opportunity, that of integration in the community; and their greatest hope, the freedom to choose their own path.”

The 6th graders are motivated to serve in their community and look forward to representing their school with TGA values of caring and citizenship. We hope their experience of being compassionate to others will be a lasting and motivating memory.

St. Martin’s is located at 1201 3rd St NW; http://www.smhc-nm.org/. For more info re: donations or volunteering, please contact Suzanne Soto at 505 242 4399 ext. 304 or via email at ssoto@smhc-nm.org.
